Watch Movement
Manual wind watches require interaction from their owners in order to keep them running. These watches are made of a mainspring, which is the heart of the energy storing mechanism in the watch. The spring, once wound starts to release its energy though the main-shaft in a controlled fashion. This controlled fashion is made possible by the gear system which ensures that as long as the coil is delivering a minimum amount of torque, above the threshold, then the watch keeps turning. Contrary to common belief, hand wound watches can be very accurate, although usually less accurate than quartz.
