Gold Watches
Gold is one of the most valuable materials on earth and since the watches of today come under the category of jewellery, it is normal for watches to benefit of this material too. Although pure gold is too soft to make a watch out of, 18 karat gold is quite well suited, as the alloy is strong and durable. The bracelet can also be made out of 18 karat gold, for an exquisite package.
Unlike stainless steel watches, gold watches cannot be worn daily for years on end. This statement is especially true of gold bracelets. The inherent softness in the material means that a gold watch/bracelet worn for more than a year, needs to be taken to a special workshop for reconditioning. It is not uncommon for the links to simply disconnect from each other if worn intensively. This is the price paid for beauty.
Nonetheless, a gold watch is excellent for dressing up for special occasions. A gold watch is also the preferred gif for special occasions such as weddings and anniversaries. The use of gold watches in dress-down situation is not recommended, as they simply look awkward.
Resale Value of Gold Watches
In terms of re-sale value, gold watches do not quite live up to expectations. Although a watch may be made of 18 karat gold, when it comes to re-sale, the owner will be lucky to get half the price of the equivalent weight of the watch in gold. So if you need a liquid commodity, don’t buy gold watches, but instead just buy gold nuggets.
